VTE can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, race or ethnicity and Up to 60% of all VTEs are hospital-associated. In the UK and worldwide, VTE is a leading cause of death and disability. More people die from blood clots each year than the total number of people who lose their lives annually due to AIDS, breast cancer, and motor vehicle crashes combined.
